God’s Word to You May 21

God’s Word to You is you

Are you a casual Christian? Or maybe still a baby Christian?

Here are a few examples of both as well as a maturing believer.

You pray to get out of a mess you made, you pray like God is your personal genie, you expect blessings from other’s paying your way through this world, you expect God to forgive you before you go ahead and sin, you just want happiness, you lose faith when things don’t go your way or God takes to long to give you what you prayed for.

Or this describes you.

Psalm 63:1-5

A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.

1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

The thing is, it’s your choice how close you get to God or the world.

Psalm 64

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint;
protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
from the plots of evildoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords
and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent;
they shoot suddenly, without fear.
5 They encourage each other in evil plans,
they talk about hiding their snares;
they say, “Who will see it?”
6 They plot injustice and say,
“We have devised a perfect plan!”
Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.
7 But God will shoot them with his arrows;
they will suddenly be struck down.
8 He will turn their own tongues against them
and bring them to ruin;
all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
9 All people will fear;
they will proclaim the works of God
and ponder what he has done.
10 The righteous will rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in him;
all the upright in heart will glory in him!

God’s Word to You is a needed Psalm

Psalm 62

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.

1 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
3 How long will you assault me?
Would all of you throw me down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
4 Surely they intend to topple me
from my lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.
5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God[c];
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
9 Surely the lowborn are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.
10 Do not trust in extortion
or put vain hope in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.
11 One thing God has spoken,
two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,
12 and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
according to what they have done.”

God’s Word to You is peacemaker

Folks, part of the loving one another and a great example given by Christ Jesus was this word. Be His. Be a peacemaker.

Matthew 5:9

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Romans 12:18 ESV / 227 helpful votes

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Matthew 7:12

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Ephesians 4:1-32

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, …

James 3:17-18

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Romans 14:19

So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

God’s Word to You is hand out or hand up

Our world is full of people in need in some degree. It always has been and always will. Jesus said;

Matthew 26:11

For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.

The thing is there are all types of poor people. Some fall to tragedy and lose all they have. Some are limited physically or mentally to what they are able to do. There are also those who are capable of working but decide to con others into giving to them.

Our challenge is one I like to compare to the words Jesus shared in n Matthew to everyone who chooses to follow and serve Him.

Matthew 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

One thing we as a country fail at is making disciples. I know on some of our mission trips at first it seemed I needed to just reach more people and I prayed going to the airport to leave Venezuela that I hadn’t. My focus the first two trips were I just need to tell them and have them pray. The trap for many on those trips was to fall into the trap of just get them to pray. But that’s not the plan of Christ.

Imagine being born n the middle of the street and your mom leaves you to fend for yourself. Folks, our country has a lot of baby believers in that situation. Go hear this amazing preacher and have an emotional event and go down and pray to be saved and that’s it. Let’s see how ,any will be saved at the next service.

But there is no real discipleship.

The same goes for fighting poverty. Our country has spent trillions in the last 60 or more years fighting poverty. The focus has turned into just give them money, clothes and food. The challenge is what are we really accomplishing?

Making a baby believer and just getting them to pray and then going to the next lost person is similar to feed the next person in line. We, instead, should reach out to the baby believer and help them grow just as our best way to fight poverty is to reach out and help them grow.

Discipleship is a hand up. To investing in a life. It’s replicating a growing believer. Giving a hand up to the poor is the same. We need to invest time with the person and help them become someone who can help someone else.

The real challenge is it’s easy to give a small donation and feel good about yourself instead of giving a piece of your life and truly invest in someone else, isn’t it?

Be His. Make disciples. Even among the poor.

God’s Word to You is encouragement

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

2 Timothy 1:7

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

God’s Word to You is repentance

The idea of Jesus loving and accepting us as we are is very popular today. I talk to supposed pastors who preach race, sexual perversion and equality from the pulpit. Like the prosperity preachers, they have a large audience. But they teach a false Gospel.

God provided the sacrifice on the cross. We supply two things. faith and repentance. Without both of those on our part there is no salvation. We can’t be found if we don’t know we are lost.

To those who preach Jesus is ok with you just as you are I offer a few words from Him.

Matthew 4:17

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 3:2

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Mark 1:15

And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Matthew 10:7

And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’

God’s Word to You is fear

The world is scary. Evil is scary. Illness is scary. Relationships are scary. Weather is scary. Satan is scary. Oh my gosh, how can we not fear something everyday?

Psalm 56:3-4

3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?

God’s Word to You is

A Psalm for when the world is beating you down.

Psalm 57

For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam. When he had fled from Saul into the cave.

1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
for in you I take refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until the disaster has passed.
2 I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who vindicates me.
3 He sends from heaven and saves me,
rebuking those who hotly pursue me—
God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.
4 I am in the midst of lions;
I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts—
men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose tongues are sharp swords.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.
6 They spread a net for my feet—
I was bowed down in distress.
They dug a pit in my path—
but they have fallen into it themselves.
7 My heart, O God, is steadfast,
my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make music.
8 Awake, my soul!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
9 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.

God’s Word to You is the world

God created the world and everything on and around it. It was perfect. Until sin was born. Then it and everything on it changed. Not just mankind, everything. God is the Creator but Satan is, as I call it, the General Manager.

The world follows Satan. Not necessarily in a church though the Liar uses religion as one of his best tools. On our world today it’s easy to see the evil. It’s also easy to get caught up in his lies. It’s just one reason we have wars, criminals, social warriors and politicians.

It’s why we have hate. Look at black people in our country. for decades they have been told that whites hate them so to many it is so. The truth in our country is yes some whites hate blacks. But not near as many as you would think. Percent wise it’s pretty obvious more blacks hate whites than whites hating blacks. The same goes for those of different sexual preferences, those mentally confused about what sex they are, what religion you choose or lack of, legal and illegal migrants and even or especially what political party you back.

Pick just about any topic or belief and you will see Satan at the core of the hate and fighting for “rights”. None of those fights honor God. None of that hate honors God. Each of those topics can and often are the gods of those who make them their agenda.

Folks, when Jesus came here, He came for all who were lost. Period. He told all who become His to be one. Not denomination, not one race ver another, not social warriors, certain political views, He just wants us to all follow Him and be His. That’s it. The hate Satan stirs in our hearts is of the world and not of God. Our purpose on planet earth is not fighting for equality, equal equity, or any other special rights. It’s to share Him. It’s to be His witnesses. We don’t change the world. Jesus does.

James 3:16

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

1 John 2:15-17

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
