Welcome to God’s Word to You
God’s Word to You today is found in Galatians 5:1
1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
I went and took care of the kids dogs tonite. On the way home I saw a car I have seen around town several times. The driver is a bit eccentric. He has bumper stickers ALL over his car and they deal with everything from who is president to local politics as well as several conspiracy theories. It is hard to take him seriously.
And as I looked at him I thought about recent conversations I have had with people about once saved always saved. Some, who don’t believe it, have been taught it isn’t true a large portion of their lives. So it is a hard concept to grasp if your brain has always been taught differently. I guess it could be like growing up with a family and group who call hands feet and feet hands. When you come to another group that calls them differently you wouldn’t easily change your mind.
As I drove and my mind roamed around the subject a memory of a Venezuelan trip came to me. I was on a porch with a brother from there named David and his neighbor plus a translator. We were talking to a woman, her two daughters and a granddaughter.
The conversation was very long and after 20 minutes or more he asked if they could speak to here a few minutes and not translate so as to be more focused. I agreed and after a time of not understanding and the talking being very animated and excited David looked at me and softly said, thanks for praying, she is going to pray now.
I bowed my head, prayed thanks to God and after I heard their amen, looked and saw the mother was crying, no sobbing and speaking with such passion. They translated for me what she was saying.
It was this. “I knew my whole life there was something wrong with their view of God. It made no sense to me that Jesus loves me enough to die on the cross but God only loved me if I was good enough. I knew there was something wrong. Thanks to God He sent you to tell me.”
And that sweet testimony even just tonite from the memory has touched my heart and assured me even more that God didn’t send His Son to bring us temporary salvation. He doesn’t have conditional love for those of us who believe. He doesn’t have the kind of heart that makes us heirs and then makes conditions for us to hold up when He already knows we can’t.
I don’t know your beliefs. I don’t know that everyone who reads these words accepts that His love is unconditional and everlasting. I don’t know that each of you knows His peace and freedom.
But I do. And that is why I share it with you every chance I get.
me n’ God love ya
