God’s Word to You is rights and selfishness.
I hate to even hit this subject. It’s going to make people mad. It’s going to make some people real mad. Fortunately, or unfortunately most of those who read this are believers but I know a few who aren’t.
This message is aimed at the believers.
As a prelude I want to say I understand as believers we are to fight injustice and evil. But King Jesus also said turn your cheek when slapped, give the man your clothes instead of fight them and love your enemies. I don’t think He meant let someone harm you or your family. I do believe we have times where we make stands.
But in my country today rights are more important than God.
Honest. People prove it daily. Let me share a couple of tough examples.
My skin color gives me the right to not cooperate with the police.
The government has no right to say my church can’t meet.
The unborn have no rights period, even up to the time they come out of the womb.
It’s my right to have sex with whoever, whenever or wherever.
Those people (any or all of the above) don’t have the right to what they think they have their right to do.
I’m will bet that you feel picked on by one of these and feel the last one towards one or more of the others.
Brothers and sisters, God wants you. He is more interested in a relationship with you more than pushing your agendas.
If you are part of a race who has been abused in the past or even feel like you are now read this verse.
If you are scared the government is going to take away your right to meet as a church read this verse.
If you are ok with unborn children being murdered in or right out of the womb read this verse.
If you worry more about what others do that you don’t agree with read this verse.
If you are saved read this verse. Don’t just glance at the words. Don’t just think I know this. Don’t just think I’ve read this before.
Read this verse. And then look around at the world around you, look at the hurting people around you, look at those like you and look at those not like you and you tell God if you are doing what He says or not.
Matthew 22:34-40
The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
