Welcome to God’s Word to You
God’s Word to You today is found in Psalm 19:14
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Sometimes in church you will hear a child. It may be something they say at just the right time that brings laughter to the congregation. More often than not it comes across as a distraction.
I know I’ve seen it happen. And oh my the looks given by some church members. I can imagine if only the culprit could see the look they would immediately stop whatever they were doing an assume a quiet and worshipful presence.
I’m sure you too have been the victim of some parent who doesn’t seem to care about your trying to keep focused on the sermon as their little one disrupts the whole service.
Except…
There were no nurseries or kids services when Jesus spoke on the mount. I don’t think there were any when He spoke to the 5000. and He even fed them too, I’m sure there were children there too.
And you know, most of the services I have been blessed to attend in other countries seem to have children in the service too since they are mostly small and poor churches. I can honestly say I have even witnessed mothers feeding their babes during the services. And yet in those churches the noise, the children, the dogs and often the traffic driving by were no distraction.
Me? I hear a baby in service and I feel warm inside. That baby’s parents love God enough to be there. When I saw children playing quietly and sitting on the floors at the churches in Venezuela I felt thrilled because they were there and their mother and sometimes both parents loved God enough to walk 5 to 10 miles to bring them there.
Can they be a distraction? Of course. But the world is full of distractions. Satan always will put the ones that hit your distraction spots in front of you.
And it makes me think of what a friend of mine, Steve, prays and asks others to pray for him to have. And it is something I have learned to pray for and ask others to pray for me about.
Focus. If we have focus and we keep our focus on Him the the distractions of the world will not shake or divert us. They will blend into the background and be minor things. They will be the crying baby at church that doesn’t make us lose focus of a sermon but rather make us happy that family is there.
It is all about perspective and our perspective is determined by what we focus on. Our focus needs to be on Him.
Amen? Amen.
me n’ God love ya
