Welcome to God’s Word to You
God’s Word to You today is found in Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
if you are saved then you have the promise of Christ Jesus that the gift of the Holy Spirit is given to you. No ifs. No ands. No buts.
And you are also told that with the power of the Holy Spirit and with the salvation given you the whole world will hear the Gospel. And you will be included in the number of those sharing it. It won’t be just missionaries or pastors or church staff. Well, at least it isn’t supposed to be.
But how do we share? How do we know when and how and where? Well silly, by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Jesus promised Him to you.
But here is a challenge to that. We get so involved with our church, our denomination that we forget the Holy Spirit part. We forget the Gospel because our church says do it this way or do it that way and be sure to include this or that doctrine and on and on. Man tends to get in the way of things in case you haven’t noticed.
But man is who needs to hear the Gospel.
So I want to share and idea with you. I heard it years ago and it made sense and has helped me allow the Holy Spirit to guide my mouth, words and when to share the Gospel.
Most of us are scared. We don’t have confidence God is right for allowing us to tell others about Him. We aren’t sure who or how to speak to and maybe even why. That’s ok, I pray this outlook will help. See, to share with someone you need to understand a reason and how we can fit into telling people something they probably don’t want to hear.
So imagine this. You are on a plane. You are the only one awake. You are flying over a vast desert and out of the window you see an amazing oasis. It is so huge you see clearly a tremendous water source, a large jungle all around it and life in abundance.
Then everything goes wrong. The motor stalls, people wake up screaming and down you go. Then you hear a flight attendant yell that both pilots have passed out, they have been out for some time. Somehow the plane crashes but no one is hurt badly.
As you exit you remember exactly where the oasis is. But you don’t know anyone. You feel alone but you want to reach out and convince everyone you know where salvation is.
Tough place to be huh?
So, would you stand up on a platform and yell to everyone hey I know how we can be saved? Where do you think that would get you? Maybe you sit alone and wait until everyone gets settled down, and if that happens you think you can meekly suggest a way because you saw the oasis while they slept. Maybe you share the idea of your knowledge and just say follow me if you want to be saved or do whatever you want, and just leave to go, hoping others will follow you.
See, the problem here is not one of being smart enough or popular enough or even a good enough salesman. And the problem isn’t whether the others are good, bad, smart, dumb or likeable or unlikeable.
The challenge is how do you become trustworthy enough for them to listen and believe you. The best way of course is they need to know you care. They need to see your actions that prove it. They don’t need to think you are super smart or anything else except that you care.
Just like those who need to hear the Gospel. They don’t need your Bible knowledge. They don’t need you to tell them how or where to worship. They don’t need to feel like you think they are worthless or even wrong because that points to you think you are better than them.
They need to know you care. And when they learn that then their hearts will learn God cares too.
So, wanna learn how to share the Gospel? Learn how to love people. Once you love them the opportunity will come.
Love Works.
