Matthew 14:14
14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 15:36
36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people.
Mark 6:34
34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
Matthew 21:12
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
I was thinking the other day about the old bracelets and stickers and pins I saw when I was first saved. The old WWJD stuff. You know, the ones that were meant to lead us to question how to act and do so as if we were imagining Jesus was with us and thus the question, what would Jesus do?
I was thinking about it because I see such a huge variety of denominations and differences in how one may react in a situation compared to another. Much of that depends on both the person as well as the theology of the denomination.
As I was comparing the differences I saw some things in common. One was the reactions that honor God. Some others were the ones I fear honor the individual.
I know some people who in the name of religion will push their own “agendas” and or “rights” at any expense. They will say kill all Muslims because they are evil, ban this or that law because those who want them passed are evil, and you have to allow God in this or that place because we have the right to be there.
I’m not saying we promote evil. I’m not saying it is bad to stand up for our rights to have God everywhere. What I am saying is do we stand up for our rights and God to His glory or ours?
What’s my measure? Well that made me think about the WWJD stuff and I decided to not think about what He would do but focus on what He did. These verses are great examples of what He did. They aren’t the example social warriors and many politicians offer today.
He had compassion on people and healed them, fed them, taught them with love. He scattered them in anger at what they did that dishonored Him and in the end He died for them. All of them. All of us.
The masses He fed and healed and taught were many or most, regular everyday people. The ones He was angry with were those in charge of feeding, healing and teaching them because they were greedy and self centered and more, prominent religious leaders.
He died for them too.
What would Jesus have us do? As He did. Be His.
