Welcome to “God’s Word to You”!
God’s Word to You today is found in Galatians 6:8-9
8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
As many of you know I am running to get in shape to do a 5K for St Jude hospital in December. I am in my 5th week of training my body to move in a way I haven’t in decades. It isn’t easy.
As a matter of fact it is hard. My belly is bigger than it was when I was young, my lungs still feel the results of decades of smoking even though I quit 15 years ago, and my legs feel a bit weak after 3 miles and worse, they ache and cramp hours later and even the next day.
I’m not telling you all this for you to pity me though. I am sharing a thought I had while running tonite. I know in another 5 weeks I will be able to run further, longer and faster. Well I hope to be able to. But I couldn’t just think”wow I want to run a 5K” without preparing for it after being as old and as out of shape as I am.
And strangely enough I enjoy the running even though I sweat, pound my feet and legs on the pavement and have a hard time not panting like a locomotive. I see how far I have grown in 4 weeks and even though it hurts as I start to walk and each time I shift to running I see an improvement and feel better after I finish. In other words I am seeing results.
It’s a lot like God growing us. He can’t grow us if He gives us rewards all the time or makes our way easy. He can’t be glorified if we have all we need all the time to make us “happy” and don’t have to work or grow to get those things.
He also has times where we have to know and remember we need Him. Without those we tend to get in the mind set that we only need Him in dire emergencies or tragedy and can handle everything else on our own.
I guess sometimes we just need to say thanks God for all the hard things in my life that lead me to stand in you and build me up to be more of who you want than what I want. I guess sometimes we just need to say thanks God for all the reminders.
Thank you God for saving me.
me n’ God love ya
