Welcome to God’s Word to You
God’s Word to You today is found in
1 Thessalonians 5:18
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Psalm 116:12
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Colossians 3:17
17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Matthew 25:35
35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I have a friend who posted last year about the fact there are restaurants open today. He re-posted it a day or so ago. For those who may not live in the USA let me help you understand why this is a subject. Today is Thanksgiving Day in our country. We celebrate the fact that our ancestors were able, with help from some of the original inhabitants, to make it thru a hard time and survive so we could be born in this land of the free.
His post was a simple statement about go to one of these establishments and buy coffee, tea, deserts or whatever and don’t spend a lot of money but rather give the workers who have to work on this holiday a tip comparable to what you would have spent on a meal. Which I think, for those of us who can, would be a great idea. It is an I don’t support you, the business, for being open but I will try to make it worth missing the holiday for the servers.
This morning as I woke up and spent a little time with Him the post popped into my head. There was something missing about it. It took me a while but suddenly memories of past Thanksgiving Days came to me. See, there were times when drugs dealers, drunks and people living a much less than desirable way were who I filled my life with.
I was one of those who had family far away and I too was doing those things that kept me from being around those who were close by. Embarrassment, guilt and the desire to be high or drunk made me want to stay away from the very things I should have embraced and been thankful for.
And it hit me this morning. There are so many of those same type of people living in each of our cities and each of our countries who are cold, hungry, maybe homeless, maybe just alone. And I thought maybe if we too were in positions of not celebrating the holiday with big meals at home and maybe if we were even one of those who are just alone, maybe if we decided to go to eat out today we could find someone on the way or call someone we know who is facing loneliness and take them with us. If money is an issue then we could feed the hungry, have coffee or tea for ourselves and just be WITH them.
And maybe we don’t have to have a holiday to do this. Maybe He has those who we could find some time to just be with them.
For all of us maybe today we just need to sit still a moment and think about how blessed we are. Maybe we need to stop in the midst of whatever craziness and busy lives we have and remember who has given us these blessings and ask Him how we can honor Him for what He has given us and gotten us thru.
Today I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. I prayed for each of you who will read this that you not only will know and be thankful for the life you have been given but also that you will share the blessing of your life with those around you who may or may not be as fortunate.
me n’ God love ya
