Welcome to “God’s Word to You”!
God’s Word to You today is found in
John 13:34-35
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Romans 5:8
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
I have been sick several days with a sinus infection. Today is pretty much the worst day I have had but thankfully I am on my second day of antibiotics so I am praying I feel much better tomorrow.
I am not telling you about being sick for sympathy nor am I down because of it. Well I am physically but spiritually I am fine even though at this point we will miss Easter at church.
I am sharing I am sick because of how I woke up and the message God put on my heart. Yesterday I woke up with my right eye shut closed. The infection seemed to decide that my eye was a great place to escape from. This morning it was even worse to the point that I waited until I could wash it off while looking in a mirror to make sure I didn’t hurt my eye. For several moments after I woke up I was literally blind in one eye.
Tomorrow is Easter and we who believe in Christ recognize our risen Lord.
But there is a world out there that is blind to Him. Over the last few weeks our country has been divided by several issues. We are very divided it seems.
Sadly I think there are as many Christians blinded as non-Christians. Each side it seems is trying to make sure their side has the slogan, the numbers and even the sign to stand for what they believe and that whoever has the most people on their side wins.
Many are angry and the saddest part to me is both sides at times are too blind to see that God loves both sides. It seems to me that too much of the world on both sides wake up just as I did these last two days and all my life until I met Christ. Each side is focused on being right though the only right is God.
To those who believe it is our commission and show of our love for Christ to show His love to EVERYONE we meet. If we boycott those who don’t believe as we do then who will tell them and show them? If we condemn them then we take God out of the equation and pretend to be God ourselves.
Our charge is to show them God’s love as we would to our own children or family. And part of that love is not that we condone but that we and God also loves them anyway.
Their problem is they equate love to total acceptance. My mother always loved me and never gave me a moment of doubt. But I can tell you that when I wasn’t living as she knew I should she didn’t have a problem letting me know it. But she loved me anyway. She always made sure I knew it.
Those who don’t know Jesus don’t understand His love. That is why we are here. He wants us to show His love to them. They have to learn what real love is.
And many of those who profess to know Him are under the same burden. They like the lost and yes like I was, have to learn God loves us IN SPITE of ourselves. If we forget or never learn that then we will never know and understand the limitless love He has for us.
A love that was shown on the cross. A love for everyone. A love bigger than we can ever show.
We celebrate Easter one day a year. Maybe we should learn to celebrate and even share His love daily.
