God’s Word to You is
Jeremiah 45:3-5
3 You said, ‘Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.’ 4 But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the earth. 5 Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’”
Philippians 4:10-13
10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
In these verses we see the difference between two believers in God. One , Baruch, was moaning and Jeremiah gave him a message from God. The second, Paul, had matured to the point of actually realizing God gave him his life and whether things were good or bad, he still had his life n Christ.
See, verse 13 is one of the most abused and distorted verses in the Bible. The immature look at is as, “I” in whatever the situation is. I can is seen as I can do anything. It’s easy to be contest trap. Most of us come to God broken and seeking answers, blessings and things. We see Him offering us blessing after blessing and the blessings become the focus of our relationship to Him.
Paul was past that phase if he was ever really in it. We need to get past that phase too. When we do we not only become closer to Him, we start to trust Him so much that blessings are given but we focus more on being a blessing to others. We trust in Him so much that whatever we face we trust He’s with us. We don’t fear the storms. We definitely don’t try to control them. We persevere because we know this world is temporary and He has already assured us of our tomorrows with Him.
My challenge today is simply this. Where is your focus? On blessings or Him?
