God’s Word to You is
Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Read this verse again. There are two very important points in this verse. They need to be considered as you read this verse because without combining them it’s easy to miss the point made.
If we take the first part without the second we may mistakenly consider God our personal genie. It looks great knowing God will supply all our needs. Except people today far too often mix up wants with needs and needs with rights.
I need a new car, but it needs to be low mileage, red, decked out, cheap and I need it now. I need a nice house to buy or rent cheap, in a great part of town, with a fireplace, nice tile and wood floors, fenced in so I can have a dog. I can go on but I think you get the point. One additional thing, I know a lot of people who look at each of these things as rights too.
The world does that to us. We see others with more than we have yet in our minds they don’t deserve them any more than we do. You know people like that just as I do.
But is God saying any of that? Not here. Here He makes the point that no matter what you are going through that He will supply you with what He knows you need. That’s the second part of this verse that is often ignored.
How do we find peace in this since the world tempts us that we deserve so much?
I remember where I came from, who I was and keep a thankful heart for what He has already done. I don’t live a life expecting others to give to me, thinking I deserve more, just like lawyers promise on television every few commercials, or living beyond my means. We live as debt free as possible, give to the Lord as He asked and help others as we can. And we thank Him daily for all we have, both financial and family and friends.
When we align our finances and faith with Him we already know more of what we can expect from Him. When we stay worldly we will always end up with a genie view of Him.
The genie view will always direct as well as limit our prayer life plus keep God in a box. Is it time for you to change your view and prayer life?
Be His. Truly trust Him.
