Welcome to God’s Word to You
God’s Word to You today is found in 2 Timothy 3:1-5
1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
Yesterday my favorite football team stunk. They have some key players out but they admit that isn’t the reason they lost. They just didn’t play well enough to win.
But they have a bigger knock against them yesterday. They, all but one, stayed off the field during the National Anthem.
They did it for what I consider a good reason. They wanted to be unified as a team, some wished to stand some didn’t, but to be unified as a team meant much to them as well as staying off the field was a stand for keeping politics out of the game.
That whole scenario is both from players protesting off field situations as well as our President making a public statement.
Now quickly here is my stand. I don’t agree with anyone not standing for the presentation of our flag. I lose respect for those who don’t stand.
But I have to respect their right to their opinion and their right to not stand. If I don’t I disrespect what our flag stands for.
But here is a bigger problem. It is one it seems Oprah found out for us last night on 60 Minutes.
The people of our country are divided.
I know that comes as a shock to many of us. But I fear she is right. Maybe slow to find out, since most of us knew this before last night, but she is right. We have become the untied states instead of the United States.
And this is both biblical and not biblical.
It is biblical because the Bible tells us in the end times we will be lovers of self and hate each other. When I read those verses I usually think of it speaking of those who are worldly instead of the saved.
But in the world today I see more of the saved acting just as the lost. Even the saved are taking selfish stands and making protests the common way to try and fix things. But protesting everything that comes along, protesting by each side for each thing they stand against only promotes more hate and division.
Protests promotes hate and bullying. Why? Because there are always those who decide to protest the protest and then you have enemies facing each other and arguing their points and according to each side they are 100% right!!!
Where do any of us see Jesus in those situations?
The solution? Too big and simple for most people.
Why? Because their problems are always bigger than the other guys. Their cause is always more important then the other guys. They are always right.
The solution? Living for Jesus. Hear that. Living for Jesus.
Not living for your race, not living for your patriotism, not living for your cause. Living for Jesus.
Simple. 100% right. And hard to do.
Luke 9:23-25
23-25 Then He told them what they could expect for themselves: “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat—I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?
