God’s Word to You today is 2 Timothy 2:11-13
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with Him,
we will also live with Him;
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with Him.
If we disown Him,
He will also disown us;
13 if we are faithless,
He remains faithful,
for He cannot disown Himself.
This is definitely a trustworthy saying.
But look at it close. It explains salvation. It explains that we are saved forever. It explains it is supernatural and His decision not ours.
Lets look. If we accept Jesus as Lord then we know we must die with Him, right? See accepting He existed isn’t the same thing as accepting Him as Lord. That is why it was said “even the demons believe in Him” yet they aren’t saved.
So if we truly believe Jesus is who He is and we accept He is our Lord then we also accept salvation is up to Him and only Him, He is returning for us and He will never forsake us. And knowing and trusting that is how we endure.
See, we don’t endure because we are strong. We don’t endure because we exit sin on our own power. We don’t endure the race and get the crowns because we are fast or strong runners. We do so because our faith in Him is complete.
But if we don’t accept Him as Lord, if we never say the prayer or worse, if we only say it with our mouths not our hearts the we deny Him, we disown Him. I did so as an atheist for years. Thank Him my mind was changed and my eternity as well.
And that leads me to the last verse. God can’t disown Himself. What does that mean?
It means His love for us can’t be measured by what we understand. It means His very nature is that He can’t go back on what He says or gives. He never broke a covenant. He never broke a promise.
He said He will always be with the faithful and the prior verse tells us because of His very nature, who He is that even when our faith may be weak, even when our walk is not strong and yes even when we yield to temptation that He will never forsake us because by His love He can’t.
It doesn’t mean He may not allow us to lose the joy of our salvation or will condone everything we chose to do but if we are His , if we have made that covenant, that decision to believe, to have faith to put our trust in Him and our desire is to follow, then we are His. Period.
That dear ones is why I have faith in my God.
I surely could never have that type of faith in myself or any other man.
