Welcome to “God’s Word to You”!
God’s Word to You today is found in Philippians 2:3-4
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Recently I heard a pastor give a great example from David and Jonathan of what a good friend really is. His point was made by how Jonathan loved David and even gave him his own weapons and armor to do the job and fulfill the position Saul had given him.
He showed the negative side of friendship by using the example of how most people choose friends by one, how they make them feel, and two, how the others can promote and what you can get from them to make your life easier.
And then Paul centuries later shares how Jesus wants us to be friends. Now I know the word friend isn’t used in this verse. But let me ask two things.
If you treat someone unselfishly, put them before yourself and encourage and help them with their lives would they end up being your friend?
And can you ever have too many?
