Wow, today I’ve lived 25,915 days.
God’s Word to You is waste
Waste is a serious problem in our world. It’s tied with pollution, climate control, bodily functions, sanitary, words, actions, love and especially time. I’ll let you ponder each of those on your own. Just don’t waste too much time on it.
Ok, yeah, I gave a hint on one of the two I’m going to point out today. Maybe because I’m actually 71 today and thinking about time is part of my reason. I’ve wasted so much time in my past. I now look at time as a precious commodity. I find it easy to be drawn into things that may end up a waste of time to some people. Some of those are often driven by love.
There I did it again. That’s the other thing I’m focusing on today. Love.
If love is really love it’s never wasted. Even if we feel we wasted our time loving someone. If it was really love, not any type of lust or simple infatuation, that love is never wasted. Even if we don’t see any fruits we wanted or expected. Which either of those may offer the insight of was it really love.
The Bible offers this about love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
These are the signs of true love. These are the signs of Christ’s love in our lives. Frankly I see much less of this in our country and world today. I see mostly the opposite, including in the lives of so called believers. Yet He calls us to be like Him.
John 13:34-35 ESV / 2,052 helpful votes
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Mark 12:29-31
28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
The one thing we can’t lose focus is on or think we waste our time and love on is the lost. Folks, Jesus loves the lost sinner as much as any saint. It’s why He came.
1 John 2:2
He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
We must love God, love all people and not waste time putting God in that box that makes us comfortable or boosts our ego. It’s easy to let Satan sneak into our lives by stroking our egos and whispering we are right and we need to make everyone know we are. I call that the Burger King Syndrome. Unfortunately I also see it as our real pandemic. It’s everywhere. Media, social attention media and even some churches and religions. I struggle with it too. Until I see I’m knocking my head on a brick wall.
Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.
Life is short. Eternity isn’t. Our lives here are a preparation for our lives after here. Be His. Love like this is your last day or the last day for others.
